My name is Codi Hogan and I am a Year 6 student at John Paul College, Brisbane QLD. I am currently researching adoption as part of my last primary school project of the year and how we can make a difference to the kids so I would love your help! As a form of action for this project, I am advocating to change the issue of adoption in Australia. I agree that every child deserves access to a safe, nurturing and permanent family home. By supporting and donating to my fundraiser for Yesvember, you are supporting the wonderful work of Adopt Change. Turn November into Yesvember and support our work towards a home for every child. Every child deserves access to a safe, nurturing and permanent home. November is National Adoption Awareness Month(NAAM which exists to raise awareness of adoption and the importance of permanency for children, along with providing education on the support needs of children and families. NAAM aims to increase insight and understanding through a series of specialist and community-based events. Each year we hear from experts in issues surrounding adoption and permanency for children through seminars, workshops or conferences. Did you know?? There are nearly 50,000 children living in out of home care in Australia, many for two years or more. There were 315 adoptions in Australia in 2017, and while this is up from previous years, it is nowhere near the tens of thousands of Australian children requiring stability. 40% of children in out-of-home care have had between 2 and 10 placements. The impacts of impermanency are well documented, with many who have bounced around the foster care system as children experiencing poorer life outcomes such as homelessness, substance abuse, and health problems. Thank you for your support!
